As a newly established organization, Black Legacy Rising Society is laying the foundation for long-term impact by building strong internal structures, organizational capacity, and sustainability. While we are still in the early stages, we are excited to share our vision for Phase 1 programming. These programs will launch as soon as our greenhouse is operational and will grow over the next 3-5 years. Our agricultural programming is in partnership with the Canadian Black Farmers Association
Core Programs
Youth Leadership Advisory Committee
Central to our work is ensuring that youth voices are present at every stage of our development. The Youth Leadership Advisory Committee will bring together local youth, ages 10–22, with a focus on those from Black, African, and Caribbean backgrounds. Meeting monthly, the committee will serve as a platform for young people to share ideas, identify barriers, and co-design programming that is relevant to their peers. Members will receive mentorship, leadership training, and opportunities to present within the community, while also contributing to event planning, social media campaigns, and peer-to-peer outreach. Through this structure, we aim to increase youth engagement in agriculture and create a pipeline of young leaders and ambassadors for cultural farming and food sovereignty in Canada.
Community Engagement Programs
Our community engagement programs will create opportunities for people of all ages to connect with food, culture, and each other. Through workshops, storytelling, cultural cooking events, and hands-on activities, we will celebrate the richness of Black, African, and Caribbean food traditions while making them accessible to the wider community. Families will be supported to grow their own cultural foods at home, while schools and youth will have the chance to immerse themselves in the farm environment and experience agriculture in creative, interactive ways. These programs are designed to spark curiosity, strengthen cultural pride, and build lasting connections between people, food, and the land.
Future Programming: Farm & Wellness Stays
Looking ahead, we envision expanding our work by creating farm and wellness experiences that invite the community to connect more deeply with the land. Plans include building small eco-friendly cabins for overnight stays, along with a multi-purpose wellness space designed for yoga, meditation, and group activities. Guests will be able to participate in harvesting, cooking, and wellness practices such as meditation and herbal tea making with herbs grown on the farm. We also plan to host themed retreats for women, youth, and cultural heritage weekends. These offerings will not only nurture health, rest, and cultural connection, but also generate sustainable revenue to support our programs. In the future, the space will also be available for community events and rentals, creating another avenue for income and collaboration.
